Brian Kelley of the country duo Florida Georgia Line is taking his solo side project to the next level, revealing plans for an entire album of fresh tunes. Set to arrive June 25, his Sunshine State of Mind looks to build on the beachy vibes of his recent EP, Wave Pack.
In all, 17 songs are included on the upcoming studio project, and Kelley is credited as a writer on each one. Four tracks have already been shared as part of the Wave Pack EP, and the “Cruise” hit maker has now dropped two more to celebrate the new album news — “Highway on the Water” and “Songs for You.”
Like the early releases, each features the laid-back wisdom of a guy who always keeps a boot near the shoreline of his childhood home, matching chill-country romance, a party-ready outlook and rootsy, island-pop sonics.
“They say write what you know and this is the first time I really wrote for me. These songs are my babies, y’all,” Kelley shares. “This project came from a real place – my experiences as a kid in Florida, getting away, and finally moving back – and it’s just been a very life-giving thing for me. I hope fans get to know a little more about me, hear my voice, and that SUNSHINE STATE OF MIND takes you on a dreamlike vacation as soon as you hit play. Welcome to Season One.”
Sunshine State of Mind was co-produced by Brian Kelley and Corey Crowder. Looking ahead, Kelley and his Florida Georgia Line partner Tyler Hubbard will reconnect for the I Love My Country Tour 2021, kicking off September 24 in Atlanta, Georgia. Their current single, “Lil Bit” (with Nelly) is out now and has reached the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
