It’s been four years since Brooke Eden released her last single, “Act Like You Don’t,” from her Welcome To The Weekend EP. In a new video reintroducing herself, Eden describes experiencing declining health after the release of the 2017 single and being forced to take a break from touring. However, her time off led to a time of growth in her life, and it was out of that growth that her new song “No Shade” was born.

The tune, officially released today (2/5), finds Eden coming out of the “darkness” she previously experienced and into a life full of happiness. This new life includes being open about the love of her life — her girlfriend, Hilary. Although Eden began sharing photos of Hilary on social media over a year ago, they kept their relationship under wraps for more than three years. Eden told their story in an Instagram video posted in early January.

“I guess I’ve never really told our story,” she shared in the video’s caption. “I started by posting pictures of us without captions. Then started using vague words to describe who she was to me. Finally, a little over a year ago, I got comfortable enough to tell y’all who she really is @hilary_hoover —the love of my life. The journey hasn’t been easy, but our love always has.”

Written by Eden, Steven Lee Olsen and Brandon Day, “No Shade” reflects the journey Eden has taken to happiness, as she sings about letting the sunshine back into her life after a bad relationship without holding onto negative thoughts for anyone. The song exudes color — from the bright cover art, to the cheery lyrics, to the bouncy, acoustic-heavy instrumentation.

Nobody’s gonna steal my sunshine or turn my blue sky gray / All I know is at the end of the day wildflowers grow when there ain’t no shade,” she sings in the chorus.

‘“No Shade’ is about coming out of a dark place – in this case, a bad relationship – and finding your light again as the best version of yourself,” shared Eden in an official press release. “It’s also a no-judgment zone. Taking responsibility for where we’ve come from and where we’re going with no shade thrown to the past, because it got you to where you are now.”

“No Shade” is part of a three-part song series, which will also include new tracks “Sunroof” and “Got No Choice.” Eden will release a lyric video for the tune on Monday, February 8, with a music video coming later.
