Brothers Osborne took home their first Grammy award on Sunday night (April 3), winning Best Duo/Group Country Performance for their reflective inspiration jam, “Younger Me.” And when the overjoyed duo went up to accept their trophy, the emotional moment brought their journey full circle.

The win took place a little over a year after lead singer TJ came out as the first publicly gay man signed to a major country music record label in 2021, and “Younger Me” has gone on to become an anthem for self acceptance, no matter who you are.

“For those of you who do not know, this song was written really in response to me coming out,” TJ said from the stage, his voice cracking and brother John standing shoulder to shoulder in support. “I never thought I would be able to do music professionally because of my sexuality, and I certainly never thought it would be here on this stage accepting a Grammy, after having done something I felt like was going to be life changing, potentially in a very negative way. And here I am tonight, not only accepting this Grammy award with my brother who I love so much, but I’m here with a man who I love and who loves me back. I don’t know what I did to be so lucky.”

The brothers echoed that sentiment in a heartfelt post to social media, writing of how proud they were of the achievement while thanking fans and all those in their corner. Meanwhile, Brothers Osborne also delivered a captivating Grammy performance, playing “Dead Man’s Curve” for the non-televised portion of the show.

Held for the first time in Las Vegas after it was postponed due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the 64th annual Grammy Awards took place on April 3. Gathering the biggest stars from across all musical genres, the night once again celebrated the best and brightest of the year in music — including country.

Along with Brothers Osborne, other country stars performing at the glitzy ceremony included Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton and Jimmie Allen, with Stapleton taking home three Grammys and Underwood winning one.

The 2022 Grammy Awards were hosted by Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah, and aired live on CBS with on demand streaming available on Paramount+. Check out a list of the night’s country winners here.
