Cam Gushes Over Dolly Parton

It wasn’t long ago that Cam had a chance to sit down with Dolly Parton as part of Cracker Barrel’s ‘Front Porch Series’ to talk about life and their respective careers. The moment was a dream come true for budding star Cam as she, like many other women in country music, aspire to have a career resembling that of Parton’s.

“She’s so smart. She does a good job of separating her personal life and her professional life. When she’s speaking to you, she’s just so on…” Cam told Sounds Like Nashville and other media of her experience. “She’s just so great at relating. She’s just best friend status. You sit down and she goes, let me say this in a way that makes sense to you and makes you feel like you’re there and you guys are the only ones talking in those two rocking chairs when there’s tons of cameras around. She did a good job.”

Cam made sure to take advantage of her time with the legendary singer by asking for some advice as she navigates her career.

“I’d ask her questions, but what’s fun is I’d ask her a question like, how did you know who to surround yourself with? A lot of times in your journey in life, you meet wrong people, you meet right people. How do you know who to trust,” she explained. “She kind of just said, ‘God put the right people in my life,’ which is really sweet because I’m sure there were some bad people in her life. She just makes everything so sweet and positive. There’s no reason to go into some moment that didn’t work out like that. I really appreciate her positivity, her humor. I could go on for a really long time. She’s just so great. She just wins at life all the time.”

The “Mayday” singer is hoping to catch up with her new friend at the upcoming 50th annual CMA Awards, where Parton will receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.

“She is just fricking adorable and the smartest person you’ve ever met, and business-wise such an incredibly talented woman. I love seeing her. I think that’ll be a highlight.”
