It’s time for the start of a new chapter for singer/songwriter Cam. While the California native had anticipated releasing her follow-up to 2016’s Untamed sooner than later, the singer has postponed sharing new music during a time of transition.

“My friends who bought tickets for my tour this Fall,” she wrote in a note to fans on Facebook. “I had planned these shows to celebrate the release of my new music with you, but for reasons I can’t get into here, I decided I would NOT release my forthcoming album through Sony Nashville.”

She added that she plans to move forward with RCA New York to ensure the “best launch possible and the perfect tour” to share that music with fans.

Noting that she’ll still play her European and Ryman dates, she said she’s disappointed to not see her fans sooner.

“I know you would’ve don’t the same thing if you were in my shoes,” she adds in part. “I will be back soon to give you the show you deserve with new music, a clear conscience and happy heart.”

While many of her fans were understanding, some came at the “Diane” singer, saying the cancellation was due to financial reasons and that the fans should come first.

I’m ba-ack 🔥🦅 Had to reboot at home after clearing a destructive, insecure person out of my life ✨ PHEW! A lot of people honestly feel like they can’t afford to do this, so they quietly suffer bc they need the job. And there’s no shame in protecting yourself like that. I luckily had the privilege (and the guts) to speak up and get out of that situation. Not a fun or easy thing to do, and still a lot of risk involved, but it was the right decision. For anyone else going through something like this, you are not alone, and you deserve a healthy work environment. You are a badass and you are gonna breathe & get through this in the best way for you. Extra hugs available out on the road 💛 Swipe twice for dates ➡️➡️ #RoadToHappinessTour

“The fact that you can’t imagine a reason I would need to leave that building or a reason Sony would let me move without dropping me, says a lot about our culture,” she wrote (quote via Taste of Country). “It’s disappointing you can’t imagine the risk involved and assume this is some selfish financial game. But it’s important to say, especially to the women reading this: you have to take care of yourself first. You deserve a safe, healthy space. Don’t settle for less.”

As RCA is not a country label, the move will allow Cam to continue to release non-genre-conforming music, the likes of which will allow her to continue the flexibility of touring with artists like Sam Smith. She also recently collaborated with Train on a song called “Call Me Sir.” And while she’s finding success in the pop world, Cam’s followup note tells us she’s not straying too far from her country roots. No word on when Cam will embark on the next chapter of her musical journey.
