When making plans for 2020, Canaan Smith has one thing on his mind… his family. The singer and his wife Christy welcomed a baby girl they named Virginia Rose on Halloween and their lives have been forever changed.

Smith, for instance, has plans to re-prioritize his time at home, since much of his year is spent out on the road performing for fans. “Virginia won’t be on the road with me just yet, so I’m gonna try to write more songs while I’m out there touring. That way, when I’m home, I can really be home and spend time with her,” he tells Sounds Like Nashville.

Being able to unplug when he’s off the road will allow the singer to create new and lasting memories with Christy and Virginia. “[My bucket list item for 2020 is] to take my daughter on her first camping trip,” the Indiana native shares.

With his family at the forefront of his plans, Smith admits that his new year’s resolutions also focus on what’s really important.

“My resolution this year is to set my mind on the things I do have and not what I don’t,” he proclaimed.

2020 will likely be a big year for the singer, who recently became the first artist signed to Florida Georgia Line’s Round Here Records. New music from Smith is expected sometime next year.
