Carly Pearce had one of the best nights of her life at Sunday’s (April 18) ACM Awards, winning two awards for her song “I Hope You’re Happy Now” (with Lee Brice). And with a birthday coming up this weekend (April 24), she’s already counting her gifts.

Pearce and Brice took home both Music Event of the Year and Single of the Year for their emotionally-epic duet, which found an ex-couple wishing each other the best after a breakup. And speaking with reporters backstage, she said these awards prove a powerful point.

“This was my story as an apology to somebody in my past, and what’s showed me time and time again through country music is that writing my own stories and my telling my own truths — so many other people are going through the exact same things,” she explained, holding a silver trophy in each hand. “It just validates that on a crazy level, and I just feel so proud.”

Carly Pearce went on to note that she’s been through a lot in the last couple of years — including a divorce and the passing of her producer, busbee, to go along with the COVID-19 pandemic. She thinks God uses pain like that for good, though, and says two ACMs is a lot of good. She’ll likely call her parents first, adding that they are likely “losing their minds.” And then she needs to make room in her home for all the new bling.

“I now can say I have a few [awards], which is crazy, so I need to find the best [place],” she said with a laugh. “I kind of have a little situation going on but it needs to be better. So I promise I’ll post it. Because it’s gonna be big. Because they deserve it.”

The 56th annual ACM Awards aired live on CBS April 18, taking place in Nashville for a second year due to COVID-19 concerns. Luke Bryan was crowned Entertainer of the Year, while Maren Morris took home Female Artist of the Year honors and Thomas Rhett was named the Male Artist of the Year.
