Caroline Jones released her brand new EP, Chasin’ Me, today (10/18). The project features six tracks, five of which were written by Caroline, that explore life and love in a way that she says is more “mature” than her previous projects.

“I’m just really, really proud of the music,” Jones says in an exclusive interview with Sounds Like Nashville. “It’s the next chapter for me, artistically, musically, and I’m glad to be able to share an updated snapshot of where I am as an artist now that I’ve been touring for a few years.”

Jones, a bonafide musician, not only wrote many of the songs on the project, but she was also involved in producing the EP’s unique sound, which is country with a bit of pop and electronic flair. She co-produced the EP alongside Ric Wake and played many of the instruments on the project.

“It takes us weeks to produce a song, but that’s the fun of it,” Jones says of the production process. “It’s almost like writing a song a hundred times because you write the lyrics and the melody, and then you write the guitar part, and then you write the synth part, and then you go over the drum part. It’s like composing a symphony.”

The EP kicks off with the sweet and romantic title track, “Chasin’ Me,” which was released as a single in March. From there, she moves on to the sassy “Tough Guys (Remix),” which is an updated version of the tune that originally appeared on her 2018 Bare Feet album.

“‘Tough Guys’ is really the staple, the centerpiece of our live show,” Jones says. “We always close with it; it’s a rocker, it gets everybody going. We extended the arrangement over the years that we’ve been touring since it came out originally to include a harmonica break, bass solos, guitar solos, and just to have more energy and more rawness.”

Jones continues to explore life and love through songs like “All Of The Boys,” which was co-written by Zac Brown, “The Line,” which she calls her “favorite song” on the EP, and “God Made Me,” which is a look at intimacy as a divine and spiritual connection. The project closes out with the beach-inspired “Gulf Coast Girl,” which was written by Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally, and features vocals from Buffett, McAnally, Kenny Chesney and Lukas Nelson.

“Gulf Coast Girl is a song that Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally wrote for me to sing with me in mind, which is just such a huge honor,” Jones says. “And then the fact that Lukas and Kenny are also featured on it, who are my tour mates and friends, it’s obviously an incredible roster of names that I just feel super blessed that they took the time and the creativity to lend their talents to that.”

Fans can find Caroline Jones joining Trisha Yearwood on her Every Girl On Tour in November. She will also made her Grand Ole Opry debut at the Ryman Auditorium on November 16.
