Carolyn Miller is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look into the studio recording process, and having fun doing it, in the lyric video for her latest single, “Summer Time,” premiering on Sounds Like Nashville today (Sept. 4). The video showcases Carolyn’s enthusiastic personality, as she records the song and dances along while the lyrics appear onscreen. The lighthearted nature of the video goes hand in hand with the song, which is a carefree tune about looking back on summer love.

“I love to have fun and I love what I do so much, and if I could always invite people into the studio to come see it, I would, so this is sort of my way of bringing the studio to them,” Carolyn says of the lyric video. “Everything you see in that video is from the day we recorded [the song]. A lot of what I was singing made it onto the record. It’s actually the people who played on it, who produced it, so really, it’s a highlight and it’s a first-hand account to what that day was when we recorded it.”

Carolyn has been building her fanbase in country music for a few years, having released her debut EP Unbreakable last summer, but she was in the spotlight long before launching her country career. Growing up in Long Island, New York, Carolyn says the city was her playground. She participated in community theater as a child, and signed on with an acting talent agency at age eight. Life in the big city didn’t necessarily lend itself to listening to country music, though. Carolyn says country “was not a thing that people listened to,” but fortunately, she caught the country music spark thanks to Carrie Underwood and American Idol.

“I was 13 or 14 when she was on Idol and I just remember loving the songs she sang and I felt like I could relate to her a lot because she was a big power vocalist,” Carolyn says. “That was the first initial introduction to country music, but I always loved it because of the storytelling aspects of the genre. The musicians are the most incredible musicians in the world and they’ve got really strong melodies; they’ve got lyrics that actually have something to say.”

After attending The Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, Carolyn essentially made a second home in Nashville, spending one week per month there playing shows, making contacts and learning about the music business. What resulted is a musical style infused with both her New York roots and her newfound love for Nashville, which she describes as “city girl, country heart.”

In addition to the lyric video, Carolyn assured that fans can be looking forward to an official music video for “Summer Time,” coming soon.
