As many country artists would agree, Carrie Underwood is closely tied to the CMA Awards and all the event has done for her career throughout the past years. Marking her and Brad Paisley’s ninth year of co-hosting the show together, the 50th anniversary of the CMAs means a lot more than ever due to the significance of the occasion.

While the awards will honor those who achieved great success with their releases over the past year, Underwood knows that the 50th anniversary will celebrate artists from both now and then, and the accomplishments the format has brought forth to music throughout the numerous decades it has been celebrated for.

“There’s gonna be a lot of love and respect for artists of all decades, you know what I mean? It’s important to everyone involved just to have as many people there as possible and it’s a big—it’s 50 years, we want to celebrate 50 years,” Underwood says in the exclusive interview with Sounds Like Nashville.

Not only is Underwood taking on hosting duties for the night, she is also up for a number of awards including the biggest honor of the night by being nominated for Entertainer of the Year.

“That was one that was a big surprise to me,” Underwood admits. “I’m thankful for any nomination anywhere, but yeah, it was a good morning to wake up to that news, for sure.”

Underwood will be taking a quick stop from her Storyteller Tour for the night in order to co-host and perform at the 50th Annual CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 2 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
