Carrie Underwood will return to NBC’s Sunday Night Football for a new season and this time, she’s singing “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” Joining the country superstar for this new rendition will be rocker legend Joan Jett.

The collaboration is a nod to the first-ever NBC SNF open that aired in 2006. The original recording was set to Jett’s 1988 Top 10 hit, “I Hate Myself For Loving You.”

“I have always been a huge fan of Joan’s, and I’m thrilled that she’s joining us for the Sunday Night Football open,” Underwood said in a press release. “What better way to pay homage to the original SNF opening song than by getting to play with her on primetime’s biggest stage?”

“When Carrie brought us this idea, we immediately embraced it as a terrific way to evolve the performance, while also celebrating the song we used in our first 10 seasons of SNF,” added Fred Gaudelli, Executive Producer of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. “We were excited when Joan agreed to join us, and we can’t wait to debut the finished product.”

A new show open has been filmed, featuring Underwood, Jett and several NFL stars (who will be announced at a later time). For the first time ever, the open was shot within an NFL Stadium, with the Mercedes-Benz Stadium appearing as the stage.

The 2019 NBC Sunday Night Football show will debut this season on Sunday, Sept.8 as the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Underwood and Jett teamed up recently for a surprise collaboration at the 2019 CMA Fest in Nashville, TN. The two performed a series of Jett’s biggest hits which aired on ABC in early August.
