After many years of walking the CMA Awards red carpet solo, this year, Carrie Underwood will finally be accompanied by her husband, Mike Fisher. Due to his previous responsibilities as a member of the Nashville Predators hockey team, Fisher has been unable to attend the ceremony by his wife’s side… until now.

In August, Fisher announced that he’d be retiring from the National Hockey League after he and the Preds skated their way to the Stanley Cup playoffs earlier in the summer. Though the team lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the season was a highlight for the Preds’ captain and he chose to leave on a high note.

Underwood was eager to share the news that her hubby would walk the carpet with her during a Facebook live chat with her co-host Brad Paisley and Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee early Thursday morning (Nov. 2).

“I’ll actually have a date this year. My husband’s coming!” the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year squealed.

“That’s right, he’s unemployed,” Paisley quickly interjected.

“He’s unemployed! He can make it!” the Oklahoma native cheered.

The hosting duo has much to look forward to this year as it marks their tenth consecutive year as co-hosts. The duo have shared very little about what to expect from the night’s festivities aside from Paisley teasing that Underwood will be the highlight of the show.

The 51st annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, Nov.8 on ABC.
