Carrie Underwood gave longtime fans a perfect bow-wrapped present with the release of her first-ever Christmas album, My Gift. Her spirit of giving continues with a new special on HBO Max called My Gift: A Christmas Special from Carrie Underwood. Beginning Thursday, December 3, subscribers will get to kick off the holidays with a music-filled special that celebrates the reason for the season.
“Just like the album, I hope this special will help bring some much-needed joy and become part of the soundtrack to people’s holiday festivities this year as it streams throughout the season and beyond,” Underwood shared of her hopes for the timeless broadcast.
Sounds Like Nashville got a sneak preview of the show before it debuts. Here’s what to expect from My Gift: A Christmas Special from Carrie Underwood:
The Music: There are no bounds to the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year’s vocals. She hits every note with pure flawlessness and puts her personal spin on everything from “Silent Night” to “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” and even her own smash, “Jesus Take The Wheel.”
The Fashion: Honestly, no one can wear a gown like Carrie Underwood. The superstar was well known for her many costume changes during her hosting duties for the CMA Awards, and that seems to have carried over to her new Christmas special. From a short silver, beaded fringe number to a flowing blue-green sequined ombré gown complemented with stunning gems to a tiered, gold glitter tulle ballgown, Underwood’s fashion tells just as much a story as her songs do. Get ready to be mesmerized by her festive fits.
The Band: Emmy Award winning musical director (and the Oklahoma native’s longtime friend) Rickey Minor leads a live orchestra during the hour-long special. The musicians and background vocalists raise the bar alongside the powerhouse country icon to create a pleasant, family-friendly and uplifting musical experience.
The Guest Appearances: There are several very special guest appearances on the My Gift special, with one coming from someone Underwood “loves beyond measure”… her son Isaiah. Fans get an inside look at the doting mom and her Mike Fisher mini-me in the studio working on their collaboration “Little Drummer Boy.” The behind-the-scenes footage features the eager little one up at the studio microphone, singing along with one of the album’s standout tracks. However, Isaiah isn’t the only family member to make an appearance – Underwood’s mom Carole also joins in on the fun, sharing adorable childhood stories of her daughter during the holidays. Clips of a young performer in the making play in the background that highlight both her love of singing and for Christmas.
The Good Cheer: In a year that has been extraordinarily tough for everyone around the world, Carrie Underwood’s My Gift Christmas special is the perfect way to forget the stresses and worries, if only for an hour. The festive standards and originals will lift the spirits of any holiday Grinch and become an annual must-watch. Without a doubt, Underwood’s Christmas special is wrapped as a timeless gift for everyone, young and old.
My Gift: A Christmas Special From Carrie Underwood will be available to stream starting Thursday, Dec. 3 on HBO Max.
