Carrie Underwood Says Her New Album Has a ‘Different Sound’

Carrie Underwood is hard at work on her much-anticipated fifth studio album. While the release date and lead single are still a mystery, the singer is slowing leaking more details about the project.

“I’ve been writing quite a bit, it’s exciting!” Underwood told Us Weekly earlier this week at the TIME 100 Gala. “It definitely has a different sound. There are some thematic things that are quite different. I love strong women. So I want things that I can get on stage and just feel empowered.”

But when her creative juices flow, husband Mike Fisher has got to go!

“I’ve been just kind of hanging out, just kind of being home and enjoying that,” Fisher shared. “I stay out of her way. I go golfing or go fishing or something.”

Underwood appreciates that her hubby knows to give her some space. “He stays away. That whole creative process is such a weird thing, and I’ve talked to other people in the music business and friends and what they do and we all kind of have our own ‘isms.”

One thing’s for sure; the Oklahoma native needs her energy. “I go in and I’m like caffeinated. I get jacked up on caffeine and then I come home and crash,” she said.

Although Underwood kicks Fisher to the curb for her writing sessions, she does plan to “hang out in Canada in summer with his family” soon.
