Carrie Underwood has two sons, 5-year-old Isaiah and 1-year-old Jacob, and they are getting to the age where their personalities are starting to shine through. Underwood says her oldest, Isaiah, has always been a “cuddler,” but that little Jacob has a bit of a spunkier side to him.

“Isaiah was always a cuddler,” she shared with a group of reporters, including Sounds Like Nashville. “He always wanted you to be holding him or sitting in your lap or ‘Please sleep with me.’ We had a really rough time where he was just coming into our room every single night at 2 o’clock in the morning.

“Jake is the opposite,” she said with a laugh. “He’s always been like, ‘No, put me down, leave me alone, you’re in my way.’ So, he might be a little more independent. I feel like he’s getting a little more cuddly the older he gets and he seems to be getting a little sweeter, but he’s definitely my rough-and-tumble, bull-in-a-china shop kid.”

Underwood continued, saying that Jacob seems to enjoy doing funny things in exchange for a few laughs, but she and her husband try to avoid laughing at his antics in order to not encourage the behavior.

“He wants to climb — when he thinks he’s being funny, that’s when he’s going to do the naughty stuff,” she said. “You can’t laugh at him, but it’s the hardest thing in the world not to laugh at him. He just seems to be a little more independent and a little wilder.”

According to Underwood, even the boys’ friends have noticed Jacob’s spunky personality, and one has already come up with a funny nickname for him.

“One of his little friends, one of Isaiah’s little friends that is around them calls him ‘Jake the trouble make,’ and I would say that is accurate,” added Underwood.

While Jacob is still too young to follow in his mother’s footsteps of singing, his older brother has already made his debut in the recording booth. Isaiah is featured on Underwood’s Christmas album, My Gift, on which he sings “Little Drummer Boy” alongside his mother.

“To hear his voice, I laugh and I’m like, ‘When he’s a dude, a man, and he’s got this deep voice, I’m always going to have that moment in time captured on this album,’” Underwood said of the track.
