Chase Rice has another chart-topping notch on his belt, celebrating his second Number One with some old friends.

Along with collaborators Florida Georgia Line, Rice has made “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen” into a two-week country radio hit — marking the second Number One of his career. And its backstory is one worth sharing.

Written by Rice with Hunter Phelps, Cale Dodds and Corey Crowder, “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen” stands out in multiple ways. There’s that distinctive title, of course. But also the fusion of a catchy melodic hook and deceptively thoughtful theme. The track might seem like a simple party tune on the surface — and it is fun. But Rice and company also wrap their feel-good beats with spiritual curiosity, wondering at the biggest questions life has to offer.

According to Rice, the song was written just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and now marks a full circle moment that’s rarely seen in country, or anywhere else. He and Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley actually used to be roommates, living together when they first arrived in Nashville more than 10 years ago. back then they teamed up to write a little song called “Cruise,” which ended up being FGL’s Diamond-certified, career-defining breakout.

“Sharing a Number One song together not once, but twice, is more than we ever could have imagined years ago, when we were just three friends chasing a crazy dream,” Rice says. “I’m so grateful to the fans and Country radio for connecting with and supporting this song the way they have. There’s no better feeling as an artist than knowing that writing and singing your truth resonates with people.”

“There is always an inspiring energy when the three of us come together,” add Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, who served as producers on the song alongside Rice and Crowder. “You could just feel it in the house back when we were roommates, and it is amplified that much more now when we collaborate. Our first Number One changed all of our lives in more ways than we could have ever imagined, and we’ve certainly lived a lot of life since then. To be celebrating our second Number One together is surreal and a full circle moment. We’re so thankful to Chase for his friendship over the years and sharing in this crazy dream of ours.”

“Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen” from Chase Rice featuring Florida Georgia Line follows Rice’s Double-Platinum Number One, “Eyes On You,” which was named one of the Top 5 most played songs on Country radio in 2019. The most recent hit appears on Rice’s The Album, which is out now.
