Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth is famous for playing heartthrob superhero Thor and leading Marvel’s Avengers into battle, but he put a different — country music — spin on the character in a new video clip.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night (June 12th), Hemsworth spent some time chatting on Fallon’s couch about his new movie Men In Black: International and keeping himself in leading-role shape, but he also offered up a hilarious “world premiere.”
Suited up as “Fat Thor” from Avengers: Endgame, the actor is seen strumming along to the deeply-scarred strains of “Hurt,” as performed by the Man in Black himself — Johnny Cash. Hemsworth explains that he was in between takes while filming the Avengers finale (which at one point finds Thor lost in a dark haze of depression), so he decided to get in character using the song.
“I didn’t know if I was ever gonna show it because it was in the trailer in between a few takes,” Hemsworth tells Fallon about the moment. “What else but Johnny Cash, ‘Hurt,’ it’s the saddest song in the world. And I’m a terrible singer and a terrible guitarist.”
Sung in Thor’s raspy Asgardian vocal and with Hemsworth strumming hard on an acoustic guitar, it’s a version of the song — and perhaps a visual — you won’t soon forget.
Men in Black: International opens in theaters this Friday (June 14th).
