Chris Lane experiments with different genres and sounds in his personal interpretation of country music, but he gets downright soulful on his new song, “Take Back Home Girl,” featuring pop singer Tori Kelly.
Eying her from the start of the song’s creation, Lane knew “Take Back Home Girl” would make for a killer duet with a strong female voice. Immediately, the country singer thought of Kelly for the role and tried everything to get in contact with her to work together in the studio. Thankfully, Kelly agreed to the duet for her first step into country music.
“I’ve been a big fan of Tori’s for quite some time and I had this song that I was looking for a duet with,” Lane said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “They asked me, ‘Who’s your dream collaboration partner?’ and she was the first person I said.”
The song describes Lane’s dream girl and someone that he would want his mama to meet if he were to bring her back to the place where he grew up. The quick-worded chorus jams smoothly over an easy rock track to make for the ultimate up-tempo love song, just like Lane has been known for in country music.
Lane has had a busy summer as he not only recorded “Take Back Home Girl,” but also crisscrossed around the country on Florida Georgia Line’s Smooth Tour as their opening act. He’ll soon move on to his own Take Back Home Tour later this fall, and he hopes to bring Kelly out to perform their new song together live in front of fans.
“I know she’s got a busy schedule with her touring and in the studio and all that kinda stuff, but if it lines up with schedules and whatnot, I will have her out any day of the week,” said Lane to ET.
