Not one ounce of hesitation flowed through Chris Stapleton’s veins when he got the call to record one of Sir Elton John’s dearest songs, “I Want Love.”

Although the country singer may sound a bit raspier and more Southern with his signature vocal, it didn’t stop John or Stapleton from working together on the tune. Hoping to emulate the same emotion that John poured into the song so many years ago, Stapleton couldn’t refuse such an offer to get to cover it in full.

“He [Elton] called me and asked me to do this…and what do you say? You say yes, you know,” Stapleton laughed of the honor.

Marking a huge career highlight for Stapleton among his numerous GRAMMYs and country music accolades, the singer jumped right on board to the cover project as a way to remember his own past that was filled with the soundtrack of John’s catalogue.

“At any stage in my life you can pick out a moment, a place in time, and there’s an Elton John song playing somewhere in the background,” Stapleton said in the illustrative video preview.

Chris Stapleton is only one of the many country stars featured on both Restoration and Revamp. Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson, Little Big Town and Maren Morris will all contribute their voices to the compilations as well, representing country music well for the pop/rock legend himself.

Restoration: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin will hit shelves on Friday, April 6.
