Chris Stapleton has quickly become one of the most prominent names in the Country music community, and his hard work will be recognized as he will be receiving the Vanguard Honor at the 54th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards.

The Vanguard Award is given to those who have shaped the whole of their genre with their artistic songwriting and singing ability, just as Stapleton has done over the past few years in country music. Recipients of the award in other genres outside of the country world have included artists like Sara Bareilles, Fun., Walk the Moon and many others.

To the people at ASCAP though, Stapleton’s impact has swiftly changed the force of Country music and he has used this huge year of his to transform and reconnect back into a more storytelling traditional type of sound.

“Every so often, someone comes along with songwriting so masterful, a voice so powerful and a presence so captivating, that it stops you in your tracks,” said ASCAP President Paul Williams recently. “Chris Stapleton does just that. By distilling Southern sounds and themes into potent songs, he has brought raw soul back to the country charts, and established himself as one of the most respected and original artists in American music today. We are thrilled to honor him with the ASCAP Vanguard Award.”

The ASCAP Country Music Awards will also honor Ricky Skaggs with the ASCAP Founders Award, which is a high accolade for all of the work he’s done throughout his career for country music.
