Sometimes you’ve gotta smile to keep from crying, and Chris Stapleton is here to help! The country star poked a little fun at what’s sure to be a challenging Christmas on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, previewing a fake holiday album with a coronavirus twist.

Wearing his favorite llama-reindeer Christmas sweater — plus a mask and face shield — the “Starting Over” singer unveiled the totally fake details of A Very Covid Christmas, re-making some of his favorite songs of the season for a year of pandemic protocols.

“Deck the Halls,” for instance, was updated for the times by dropping the boughs of holly (who even knows what those are, anyway?) “Deck the halls with sanitizer / Fa la la la la, la la la la,” Chris Stapleton sings in his best deadpan, seated in front of a roaring fireplace.

“O cover your mouth-hole / I don’t want your droplets,” goes the “O Holy Night” redo. And “Oh CDC, oh CDC / You’re website is de-pressing,” he sings to the tune of “Oh Tannenbaum.”

Others on the joke album include “Coughing Around the Christmas Tree,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Pneumonia,” “Vaccine Navidad” and more — “available on six sanitized discs for three easy payments of $9.99.” What a great stocking stuffer idea!

On a serious note, Stapleton’s actual new album, Starting Over, just came out this Friday (November 13), and he gave a soul-piercing performance of the title track on the 54th Annual CMA Awards Wednesday.
