Chris Stapleton won Song of the Year for “Nobody to Blame” tonight (April 3), at the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards.

Nominated in the category with Little Big Town for “Girl Crush,” Stapleton expressed his surprise at winning the award when he walked on the stage in Las Vegas.

“You gotta be kidding me!” Stapleton said as he accepted the award. “I thought for sure we were gonna get ‘Girl Crushed’ on this one.”

And with that he handed over the microphone to his two co-writers on the song, Barry Bales and Ronnie Bowman, who also expressed their shock and gratitude.

“I want to thank these guys for being friends and mentors and allowing me to write with them and learn from the best,” Bales said.

This marks Stapleton’s second ACM Award of 2016. He previously was named New Male Vocalist of the Year. He is also nominated for Album of the Year for Traveller and Male Vocalist of the Year.

The 51st annual ACM Awards air live tonight (April 3) on CBS.
