Chuck Wicks’ relationship with Kasi Williams seems like a fairy tale come true. Long before their romantic engagement, Williams had caught Wicks’ eye from across the room.

“I’ve known about Kasi for a number of years, but I never realized she was Jason [Aldean]’s sister back then,” Wicks shared with PEOPLE. “I would always see her at industry events and such with someone else, but we never really spoke.”

It was years later, at the 2018 ACM Awards, that Williams was unaccompanied and Wicks decided to make his move.

“We were at a party for Jason and there she was again,” he recalled. “I didn’t see a guy around her this time, though. I remember Jason’s wife Brittany gave her a little nudge toward me.”

After talking at the party, the two began communicating on Instagram. It was a short while later that Kasi invited Wicks to join her and a group of friends out at a local bar. But Wicks never saw the message.

Fate, however, had other plans as Wicks ended up showing up at the bar on his own accord.

“We hit it off right off the bat and stayed out until midnight that night, and then we made a date to go out to dinner that Friday night,” Wicks said. “The first time I met her, I loved her. I knew she was special right from the start.”

Dating the sister of Jason Aldean was intimidating at first for the “Stealing Cinderella” singer, who wasn’t quite sure what Aldean would think.

“I’ve known Jason for a long time, but yeah, I was a little tentative at first about dating his sister because what if it didn’t work out?” Wicks admitted. “It was a little nerve-racking. I didn’t want to screw it up.”

Thankfully, things worked out for Wicks and he decided to promise Williams forever.

“I’ve been hiding the ring in the house for the last four and a half months,” Wicks shared. “I had it hidden in a backpack in the garage, so every day Kasi would get out of her car, she would walk right past it.”

And before asking the big question, Wicks went to Kasi and Jason’s father Barry for permission, not once, but twice.

“We were probably drinking too much and I was losing money,” Wicks admitted of his night playing cards with Jason and Barry. “But I started telling them how much I loved Kasi and the whole bit, and I started crying. Luckily, Jason was super cool, saying that he just wanted his sister to be happy. And her dad hugged me and said that he would love to have me in the family.”
He asked again just weeks later (and completely sober).

Now that the couple is engaged, Wicks shared that they aren’t waiting to get married and are hoping to tie the knot in the fall of 2019.

“We are both so ready. We definitely don’t want to wait around and have some long engagement,” said Wicks. “As long as we can get the venue, we are thinking of getting married this fall. I love this girl so much and we want to start our life and a family together sooner than later” (Kasi is also the mother of an eight-year-old daughter, Avery).

Wicks dropped to one knee outside of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Canada.
