Singer/songwriter/producer Clare Dunn has spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic helping out on her family’s farm in Colorado. Though she was surrounded by acreage of agricultural land most of the time, her musical inspiration never ceased. Dunn turned her time in the Centennial State into a creative period, releasing several new songs last year. Her passion for making new music has continued well into 2021 with the announcement of a brand new EP called In This Kind of Light.

Sharing the news exclusively with Sounds Like Nashville today (6/17), the five-song EP was written and produced on her family farm and features her new single, “How It Comes Off.'”

“This is a song about the start of the end of a relationship. I wrote, produced, and recorded it on the farm & ranch I grew up on in Colorado. I wrote several songs about this ending while going through it. ‘How It Comes Off’ was the beginning of that,” Dunn explains of the lead single.

In the track, Dunn sings of a woman who is unable to make her brother-in-law’s birthday trip and sees photos of her husband getting cozy with a female friend. Unable to decipher what is really happening, the woman begins to worry about the nature of their relationship and what is actually going on behind the scenes, when she’s not around.

“That’s how it comes off, that’s how it starts / that’s how one thing leads to another ’til you can’t stop / and I don’t mean to accuse ’cause I know you don’t mean to break my heart / but that’s how, that’s how it comes off,” she sings in the heart-wrenching chorus.

Dunn’s In This Kind of Light EP is set for release on August 13. Listen to “How It Comes Off” above before it’s official release on Friday, June 18.
