After a groundbreaking performance to start off the 50th Annual CMA Awards that filled with stars from the past and present, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood had big shoes to fill to keep the entertainment going with their opening monologue.

We’d say they did.

They had their fun commenting on events via song from the past year including Willie Nelson’s pot venture, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s tour announcement and of course the election. They stayed un-bias and teased both parties’ candidates using direct quotes from the political season including “nasty woman” and “basket of deplorables,” complete with props.

The biggest laugh might have came when they plugged ABC’s “Designated Survivor” and joked that Billy Ray Cyrus would have to represent country music if anything were to happen at the awards show.

The 50th Annual CMA Awards are hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. See everything that went down during tonight’s show HERE.
