CMT Host Cody Alan Comes Out as Gay
"2017. As we start a new year, there is something I want to share with you. You see, I’m gay. This is not a choice I made, but something I’ve known about myself my whole life," Alan wrote on his Instagram page.
Fans of CMT have always drifted toward host Cody Alan for his bubbly personality and his happy-go-lucky approach to hanging out with all of the hottest country stars. But underneath it all, he had an underlying secret he wanted to share.
Finally finding the right time to talk about it at the fresh start of a brand new year, Alan just admitted publically that he is gay and he’s happy to let fans in on something he’s been keeping back for quite some time.
“2017. As we start a new year, there is something I want to share with you. You see, I’m gay. This is not a choice I made, but something I’ve known about myself my whole life. Through life’s twists and turns, marriage, divorce, fatherhood, successes, failures – I’ve landed on this day, a day when I’m happier and healthier than I’ve ever been,” he wrote. “And I’m finally comfortable enough for everyone to know this truth about me. As we continue our journey, I hope this news won’t change how you see me. I’m still the same Cody I always was. You just know a little more about me now. My hope for the future is to live the most honest, authentic, loving, and open life possible. Here’s to being happy with yourself, no matter who you are, who you love, where you come from, or what cards life has dealt you,” Alan captioned a simple post to his Instagram account on Thursday morning (Jan. 12).
The CMT personality also talked to People Magazine about his struggle with his sexuality and how he finally came to terms with the fact that he accepted his secret truth.
“I started approaching my closest friends and family first and let them know that this is something that’s been a part of my life since I was a kid and that through all my decisions in my life, I’d come to a point where I felt really happy with where I was. I wanted them to know where I’ve been and who I am,” he told People during a personal interview.
For Alan, the announcement has done nothing but send him love from those closest to him and he has found great pride in his decision to come out.
“It’s awesome now because I have a partner, my ex has a boyfriend, and with our kids, we have this really beautiful, blended, loving, modern family that works for us,” he explained. “My ex-wife is my greatest supporter; my kids are my greatest supporters!”
Alan has been a part of the CMT family for a handful of years and continues to host coverage for the network at many country music events.
