Another country star is being silenced just as live concert touring gets back underway, with Cody Johnson placed on vocal rest and unable to sing for three weeks.

The traditionally-minded Texas native announced the sad news in a social media post to fans, asking for support through a “difficult time.”

“Coming off the road after an incredible weekend to some not so exciting news,” Johnson posted. “Unfortunately, my [ear, nose and throat doctor] of 8 years has put me on vocal rest for the next three weeks.”

Johnson made no mention of what led to the order, but says the measures are just precautionary for now. Going on vocal rest is fairly common for professional singers, and hopefully, doing so will help Johnson get ahead of any potential injuries.

“God willing, this will be an isolated incident, and as of right now, there is no concern about long-term damage,” he said. “However, I would appreciate ya’ll keeping me in your prayers for a safe and speedy recovery. I can’t wait to get back out there doing what I love. Thank you for understanding during this difficult time.”

Johnson now follows hit maker Jon Pardi, who was also advised to take a break earlier this month, after returning to a heavy performance schedule for the first time in over a year. Vocal chords are muscles, and for country stars, years of singing every day builds that muscle. But after being sidelined by COVID-19 through 2020, it appears that some have tried to do too much too soon as concerts resume. Johnson had returned to touring on June 11.

“I FEEL THIS!!!!!” Pardi commented on Johnson’s post. “You can do it!” Pardi was told not to speak until the end of June, and is almost done with his silent time.

Cody Johnson released two new tracks this month — “Til You Can’t” and “Longer Than She Did” — and his next tour date is listed as July 23 at the Night In the Country Music Festival in Yerington, Nevada.
