Cody Johnson’s Reflective ‘On My Way To You’ Video Follows One Couple’s Lifelong Journey
"On My Way To You" is featured on Johnson's forthcoming album, Ain't Nothin' To It.
Cody Johnson gets reflective on his new single “On My Way To You.” The lead track off his forthcoming album Ain’t Nothin’ To It, the heartfelt ballad details the often arduous journey of finding one’s significant other.
Written by Brett James and Tony Lane, “On My Way To You” marks Johnson’s major label debut. In an interview with Sounds Like Nashville, Johnson said that while the tune reminds him of his story with his wife, Brandi, it was his new label team that selected the song as his current single.
“They picked ‘On My Way To You,’ which I feel is one of the country-est, most George Strait sounding things on the record,” he said, settling into a couch at his new record label home Warner Music Nashville. “If you listen to it throughout, there’s some blues, there’s some southern rock, there’s some traditional, but they picked that because they felt like it was exemplary of who I am. I thought, ‘Well, we’re here. We have a home. This is where I’m supposed to be.'”
The video for “On My Way To You” was directed by Sean Hagwell and filmed just outside of Nashville. The clip’s storyline follows the love story of an older couple as Johnson sings the song on their front porch. A track that he relates to as his own story, his real-life love interest is even featured at the video’s end.

Johnson penned two of the tracks on his upcoming studio album and says the song selection process for the record was based simply on what he would want to listen to in his truck on repeat.
“I got to choose them, it was like I got to pull songs off of people’s records. To hear those demos, I was a fan of these songs. Now, when I’m singing these songs, I find that I’m having more fun and my crowd is seeing me and they’re getting that fun. It translates to them a little bit more which is different for me. I think it really changed my mindset and it got me outside of my writer’s box.”
“On My Way To You” is featured on Johnson’s forthcoming album Ain’t Nothin’ To It due for release Jan. 18, 2019.
