It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it! At least that’s what Cole Swindell is telling himself about his new gig as a judge at the 2017 Miss America Competition, poor guy!

“I’m so excited to be a judge at this year’s competition,” the singer told PEOPLE. “Knowing how hard the contestants must work to get there, I’m looking forward to helping one of them become Miss America!”

The “Middle of A Memory” singer will probably look to his buddy Brett Eldredge for some tips, as the Illinois native served as a judge back in 2015.

“Swimsuit is obviously a great category but the talent part says a lot about a person,” Eldredge said at the time. “Everybody in the whole world has a certain talent. I grew up being in talent shows and I always loved them, so I think that will be my favorite part – seeing what each woman brings to the table.”

The 2017 Miss America competition will take place on Sept. 11, 2016 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Also serving as celebrity judges will be Mark Cuban (Shark Tank), actress Sara Foster (VH1’s Barely Famous), and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes. Chris Harrison (ABC’s The Bachelor and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire) and Sage Steele (ABC’s and ESPN’s NBA Countdown) will serve as co-hosts.
