It is another devastating loss in 2020 as longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has died after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.
The news was delivered via a statement from the Jeopardy! Twitter account on Sunday (November 8), saying the star “passed away peacefully at his home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
His 30-plus years working as the host on the well-known trivia game show has turned Trebek into a household name, and some of country music’s finest are paying tribute to his legendary career.
Country duo LOCASH expressed their grief over the loss on Instagram, posting a picture of Trebek next to a screen reading, “Who is one of the greatest game show hosts of all time?”
“RIP Alex Trebek,” the duo captioned the sentimental post.
Mickey Guyton retweeted a message from the official Jeopardy! Twitter account announcing the news of Trebek’s passing, adding multiple broken heart emojis to reflect her mourning of the host.
Bobby Bones followed that sentiment, with a retweet of the statement and his reaction saying, “RIP AT.”
Other members of the country community like the James Barker Band, Olivia Lane and Yee Yee Apparel acknowledged the loss of Trebek throughout social media.
Trebek has been the face of Jeopardy! for 37 seasons, working on the show for the past five decades. He won five Daytime Emmys for his role on the popular game show, and gained critical acclaim for his presence and wit.
The Canadian-born host announced he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March of 2019, receiving love and support from fans and friends worldwide.
Trebek was 80 years old.
