ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp is in session this week in Nashville, with 31 campers from around the country participating in a week of activities and excursions around Music City. The residential camp has the dual purpose of studying Williams syndrome and other developmental disabilities and providing music enrichment through performance and education.

On Tuesday, Wynonna Judd dropped by and participated in a karaoke event at Winner’s with the campers and on Wednesday, 2-time ACM Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood visited the campers during their recording session, where they recorded their original song, “In Harmony” with producer Mark Bright and songwriter Brett James. The campers wrote the song on Monday with James, alongside Gary Allan and Odie Blackmon. Little Big Town also visited campers during the week.

“You can just tell how much they love it and how proud they are of themselves just from recording a song, writing a song,” Underwood said (quote via Associated Press). “I think we all kind of forget what a special gift that we have and we’re able to participate in every single day. And music is definitely a universal language. Anybody can speak it. Anybody can love it. Anybody can be involved in it. You can just tell how happy it makes them.'”

The camp is a partnership between ACM Lifting Lives and Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.
