Country Stars Share Favorite Holiday Memories & Traditions

With the Christmas season upon us, many of your favorite country stars have taken the time to reflect on some of their favorite holiday memories. From the food they eat, to the movies they watch, to the precious moments they remember, to the gifts they unwrap, see what different country stars had to say about Christmas…

“We would sing ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,’ ‘Silent Night’ and all those songs everyone knows up and down the halls [of the nursing home] and pass out bags of goodies. Bringing a little Christmas cheer to the nursing home is something I’ll always remember.” – Carrie Underwood

“The four of us — my brother, mom, dad and I — would load up the station wagon and go to the beach. There’d be families everywhere, and we’d take a lunch and presents with us. A lot of times, we’d open gifts up in the back seat of the car because we couldn’t wait until we got there.” – Keith Urban

“My favorite Christmas gift is definitely my first Honda 50 motorcycle that I got back in 1984. It was just an amazing gift to have under the tree, and I never will forget seeing that.” – Luke Bryan

“My favorite Christmas songs are all of the old hymns and religious songs because the lyrics are very sacred.” – Sara Evans

“We put on the classic Christmas songs by Gene Autry, Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby. We love those.” – Alan Jackson

“My favorite Christmas gift was probably my very first guitar from my Grandpa about 15 years ago. And more recently, I got a red Gibson about 5 or 6 years ago. That red one we use onstage was given to me by my Dad for Christmas years ago.” – Lady Antebellum’s Dave Haywood

“It’s a close tie between It’s A Wonderful Life and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for my favorite Christmas movie.” – Lady A’s Hillary Scott

“I have every decoration you can think of. I like to have a tree in every room.” – Miranda Lambert

“Growing up, Santa Claus would cover the presents with a white blanket so when we’d wake up Christmas morning, we had to wait for my dad to do the big reveal of all the presents Santa brought.” – Martina McBride

“My favorite part about the holidays is spending time with the family. It’s tough being on the road and not seeing them as much during the year. The holidays are always the time of year we get together with the family and spend some quality time together.” – Scotty McCreery

“I’m a last-minute shopper. I end up at the mall or somewhere on Christmas Eve. It’s a shame.” – Brad Paisley

“I love How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It’s one of my favorites.” – Kellie Pickler

“Christmas at the Rucker house is pretty laid-back. Our kids wake up real early Christmas day and open their gifts. We hang out, have breakfast, go to church, come home and play with toys.” – Darius Rucker

“It seems like everybody in our hometown of Greenville comes out to eat Christmas brunch with us. Everyone has a great time, and it’s a like a big family reunion.” – The Band Perry’s Neil Perry

“The greatest gift I’ve ever received is a letter from my dad a few years back. He wrote about all of his memories of my life through my ups and downs. He told me he was proud and loved me through it all. His greatest words were in the last paragraph, ‘Be at peace with yourself, be at peace with everyone around you and, most important, be at peace with God.'” – Big & Rich’s Big Kenny

“Some of my favorite holiday memories are playing music around the piano at my grandparents’ house on Christmas Day after everyone has opened presents and gotten fat off of my Grandma’s cooking. When I was younger, I would need a little prodding to get my fiddle out, but once it was out, I wouldn’t put it away! My Grandma would sit at the piano, my Grandpa would play stand-up bass, and we would play old Scandinavian tunes and Christmas songs for hours. When I was younger, I didn’t realize how special those moments were, but I definitely cherish those memories now.” – The Farm’s Nick Hoffman

“My favorite Christmas present as a kid was a ukulele from my parents, and I loved to carry it with me everywhere!” – the JaneDear girls’ Danelle Leverett

“My favorite Christmas food is mom’s homemade brownies. My brothers and I called them ‘reindeer terds.'” – Gloriana’s Mike Gossin

“I’ll never forget the Christmas when I received my first guitar — I was 12 yrs. old. I disappeared into a quiet room with the guitar and emerged about three hours later and played my first song for my family, ‘Jingle Bells.’ Little did I know, but that present would end up shaping the rest of my life!” – Gloriana’s Tom Gossin

“So typical, but I got an Easy Bake Oven as a little girl and I loved it! I wonder if I still have it?” – Gloriana’s Rachel Reinert

“My dad and I always watch Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. It wouldn’t feel like Christmas if we didn’t do that every year.” – Frankie Ballard
