Highlights from CRS 2011
(Lauren with Jerrod Niemann)
The best event all week was (by far) Sony Music Nashville’s “boat show.” The annual event takes place on Nashville’s famed General Jackson Showboat and showcases the label group’s hottest up and coming artists as well as their superstars. I was honored to have the opportunity to attend the show.
Some of the night’s most memorable moments include:
- Jake Owen debuting his catchy new single, “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”
- Carrie Underwood singing back-up vocals for Jerrod Niemann during “What Do You Want”
- Josh Thompson singing a brand new song “On A Boat Somewhere” (which he also sang at our benefit concert)
- A surprise appearance by Tim McGraw (he performed “Me and Tennessee” with Gwyneth Paltrow)
- An amazing performance by Sara Evans (including “A Little Bit Stronger” and “Anywhere” from new album) who joked that she’s been doing laundry for the past six years since her last studio album (she releases her new album, Stronger, on Tuesday)
- An emotional Chris Young thanking country radio for their support and three consecutive No.1 singles
- Carrie Underwood belting out “Undo It,” “Jesus Take The Wheel,” and “How Great Thou Art” even though she was fighting a cold
- Brad Paisley’s debut of his next single, “Old Alabama” and a surprise appearance and performance by Alabama’s Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook
The crowd was also treated to performances by some of the label’s newest additions such as Casey James, Bradley Gaskin, and an all-girl quartet called The Lunabelles. Overall it was a fantastic night of great music.
(Lauren with Chris Young)
While in town I had the opportunity to meet Chris Young and listen to a few songs from his forthcoming album, including his current single, “Tomorrow.” Chris is on his way to becoming a superstar. He was very kind and down to earth and so thankful to be where he’s at today. He’s already got three number ones under his belt and I have a feeling there are many more to come.
(Lauren with Bradley Gaskin)
Aside from seeing him perform on the “boat show,” I also got the chance to meet and listen to Bradley Gaskin. I was absolutely blown away. I can’t give away too much just yet, but mark my words, Bradley will go far. He has one of the best voices I’ve heard in a long time and I can’t wait to tell you more about him.
I sure had a great week in Music City. After getting a glimpse of a new crop of artists, it’s obvious that the future of country music is in good hands.
