THE 2020 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS - "The 2020 American Music Awards", hosted by Taraji P. Henson aired from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, SUNDAY, NOV. 22 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. (ABC) DAN + SHAY

Country duo Dan + Shay dominated their categories at the 2020 American Music Awards last night (November 22), sweeping all three of the awards they were nominated for.

Tying for the most wins of any artists on the night, the duo of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney took home trophies for Favorite Duo or Group – Country, Favorite Song – Country and Collaboration of the Year (for “10,000 Hours” with Justin Bieber) … and that last one was especially remarkable.

As an all-genre category, Dan + Shay were up against massive pop acts like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, Cardi B and Megan Three Stallion and more. Their win makes the Smyers and Mooney the first country act in history to take home the Collab title.

“Wow, this is absolutely incredible,” Mooney said as they accepted the award for Favorite Song – Country. “Thank you guys so much, this is a huge honor. Thank you to our wives … our team, my two little boys. To the Nashville songwriting community, thank you guys so much for inspiring us every single day. There are so many great songs written in Nashville every day and we know that. So the fact that you chose our song means the absolute world to us. To country radio, thank you for playing our music.”

“This has been the toughest year ever [because] we haven’t been able to be together in person,” Smyers added. “But I just wanted to say, music has such an incredible power to unify us. Music has power to change lives, to save the world. So to all of our fellow artists and nominees, everybody creating art at home: thank you for doing what you do. And the fans – everybody up there [or] watching at home, thank you for everything.”

Dan + Shay also performed their current single during the show, turning in a vocal master class with “I Should Probably Go To Bed,” and other awards were won by Maren Morris (Favorite Country Female Artist), Kane Brown (Favorite Male Artist), and Blake Shelton (Favorite Country Album — God’s Country: Fully Loaded).

The night of big wins continues a streak of awards-show victories for Dan + Shay, who also took home trophies for Duo of the Year at the ACM and CMA Awards this year, as well as a Grammy for Best Country Duo Group Performance and more.
