Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers And Wife Foster 16-Year-Old Dog
This pup will be surrounded by so much love!
Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers and his wife Abby recently gave an underweight, 16-year-old chihuahua a new home until they find her a forever family. In a recent Instagram post, Smyers shared that they immediately knew they had to take the sweet little dog home when they spotted her at Wags & Walks Rescue in Nashville.
“16 years old. emaciated. no teeth. etc. all alone and terrified at the shelter,” Smyers wrote. “We weren’t going to let her live the rest of her life like that. so much respect to my wonderful wife @abbysmyers, @kathrynhurley_, and @wagsandwalksnashville for pouring their hearts + souls into saving these poor animals every single day. we’re glad this tiny pup is safe now and finally getting to feel love (possibly for the first time).”
The post also features multiple selfies of Dan and Abby with the dog, including one in which the pup looks up at Smyers with what seems to be a look of thankfulness. As Smyers explains in the post, the dog is already starting to seem happier and more at home with the couple.
“She’s making great strides, and we even saw some tail wagging this afternoon,” he wrote. “Once she is healthy again, we’ll make sure she finds the perfect forever home. as always, please #adoptdontshop.”
The little chihuahua is joining quite the pack at the Smyers’ home, as the couple already owns four dogs. The singer and his wife have been longtime advocates of rescuing animals, and in December, Smyers shared photos and videos of another emaciated dog, named Winnie, that he helped rescue. In the post, Smyers is seen giving the dog her first bath before sending her off to her foster home.
“She has so much love to give, and deserves the same love in return,” he wrote. “Winnie, we don’t know what happened to you in your past life, but promise it will never happen again.”
