Darryl Worley Braces For Cyclone Winston In Fiji

Country singer Darryl Worley, who is best known for his hit “I Miss My Friend,” is currently on the island of Fiji where locals and tourists are bracing for what could be a catastrophic situation.

Tropical Cyclone Winston, which is currently a category 5 on the Australian scale (the equivalent of a category 4 storm in the Atlantic), is bearing down on the island and currently has estimated winds of over 150 mph. The intensity of the storm is nearly off the charts, and forecasters are calling this weather event a “worst case scenario.” In fact, some weather experts are predicting that the storm actually has a much higher intensity and that winds could top 190 mph.

Worley, along with several other Country singers and songwriters from the U.S. and Australia are visiting the island as part of “Tunes In The Tropics,” a Country music destination event. They have no place to go, and are receiving very little information about the approaching storm.

“If some of you don’t mind posting updates on the track of this storm, it would be greatly appreciated. We have limited information here. Our only source of info is Facebook,” singer John Stone, who is also on the island, posted to Facebook this evening. His status update is now filled with screen shots and images of Cyclone Winston.

A few hours ago, Worley shared a video from the beach, thanking fans for their prayers. “We’re headed in there, we’re getting ready to put our little plan into motion and ride this thing out,” he said. The remainder of the video is nearly inaudible from the winds roaring in the background.

Cyclone Winston could likely become one of the most destructive storms to hit the island on record. Please keep Worley, his wife Kimberly, and everyone else in the path of the storm in your thoughts and prayers.
