This year’s Dauphin Countryfest in Manitoba, Canada will salute the late Merle Haggard in a big way.

The legendary performer was scheduled to perform at the festival, taking place June 30 through July 3, but now, a very special act is stepping into his slot.

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Haggard’s sons, Ben and Noel, as well as the singer’s band The Strangers, will pay tribute to the legend alongside CMA Award winner Jamey Johnson.

“You cannot replace an icon like Merle Haggard,” Countryfest promoter Rob Waloschuk says. “We couldn’t think of a better way to pay homage to the life of this prolific singer-songwriter than to have his family and friends perform a tribute concert.”

Tickets for the four-day festival are currently on sale at countryfest.ca or by phone at 800-361-7300.

Haggard passed away earlier this month after fighting bouts of pneumonia for several months. He died on April 6, what was his 79th birthday.
