Early Thursday morning, Nov. 8, news broke of a deadly shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, CA. According to multiple sources, 13 people, including the shooter, were left dead. The incident occurred late Wednesday night when the bar was hosting it’s weekly college country night.
An eye witness told CNN that she was confused from the sound of gunfire, not expecting to see the shooter in the building.
“…it’s a country bar so we were line dancing … and I heard what I thought was a balloon pop,” 21-year-old Taylor von Molt, a promoter for the club, told CNN by phone.”I was confused because we didn’t have any balloons at the time… I turned around and saw him fire his weapon a couple of times and I ran to the nearest exit and tripped and fell on the way.”
While most of the victims’ names have not yet been revealed, the country music community, many of whom have performed at the venue, have begun to extend their condolences to those effected.
The event hits close to home for the genre as the one year anniversary of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting just passed. The shooting, which began during Jason Aldean’s closing night set, became the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
