Dolly Parton Teams Up with James Patterson To Release First Novel

Dolly Parton is one of the most prolific singer-songwriters in the history of country music, and now she has teamed up with bestselling author James Patterson to write her very first novel. The book, titled Run, Rose, Run, will be released on March 7, 2022 by Little, Brown and Company publishers. Parton will also release an accompanying album with 12 songs written by the singer that relate to the novel’s story.
“I cannot be more excited about the release of my very first novel Run, Rose, Run with the great James Patterson,” Parton told PEOPLE. “I also have a new album to go along with the book. All new songs were written based on the characters and situations in the book. I hope you enjoy the book and the songs as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it all together!”
The book follows the story of a young girl who moves to Nashville to follow her dreams of becoming a singer, but behind her songs is a secret she’s trying to hide. Parton combined her longtime superstar status with Patterson’s skillful writing to create the novel. Patterson is the author behind many notable books and novel series’ including Alex Cross, Women’s Murder Club, Maximum Ride and more. He also worked alongside President Bill Clinton to write The President’s Daughter.
“It’s been an honor—and a hell of a lot of fun—to work with the inimitable Dolly Parton, whom I’ve long admired for her music, her storytelling, and her enormous generosity,” says Patterson. “The mind-blowing thing about this project is that reading the novel is enhanced by listening to the album and vice versa. It’s a really unique experience that I know readers (and listeners) will love.”
Parton announced news of the book on Wednesday, August 11, but she first teased the news two days earlier on Monday, August 9 for Book Lover’s Day.
“The seeds of dreams are often found in books, and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world. I dream of writing my own novel one day,” she wrote in a tweet, alongside a photo of herself with books.
Upon the announcement of the novel, Parton tweeted her excitement to work alongside Patterson.
“I cannot be more excited about the release of my very first novel #RunRoseRun with @JP_Books,” she tweeted. “I also have a new CD to go along with the book, based on its characters and situations. I hope you enjoy the book and the songs as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together.”
Patterson also shared his enthusiasm on social media, writing, “I am delighted to team up with America’s most beloved superstar, @DollyParton, to bring you Run, Rose, Run a new thriller about a young singer/songwriter on the rise and on the run…and determined to do whatever it takes to survive!”
