He may not be taking her man, but Lil Nas X is gladly accepting Dolly Parton’s stamp of approval on his cover of one of her biggest hits.

The rap artist recently released his own version of “Jolene,” channeling a haunting yet captivating vocal tone throughout the performance. Parton caught wind of the video, and had to send her love via social media.

“I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X had done my song ‘Jolene’. I had to find it and listen to it immediately…and it’s really, really good. Of course, I love him anyway. I was surprised and I’m honored and flattered. I hope he does good for both of us. Thank you @lilnasx,” Parton captioned her supportive post.

Lil Nas X was quite shocked and excited to see the response from the country queen herself, as he retweeted her comments and even expressed his delight by quoting the expletive, ‘HOLY S—.’

He sang the classic country track while recording his spot on the well-known BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, where he also played a few of his own songs off of his recent release, MONTERO.

Parton briefly made a cameo on TikTok, but the video was taken down just hours after it was posted. She has, however, been highlighted on the trendy app by none other than Shania Twain herself in the ‘Mama said it was okay’ trend. Taylor Swift started the chain by nodding toward Twain for paving the way for country artists to cross over to pop, and Twain then gave that initiative to Parton.

The “9 to 5″ singer has been receiving a lot of attention; she recently was named as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in 2021.
