Drake White is Eager to Share His New EP, ‘Pieces,’ With Fans
Nearly two years after releasing his debut album, Drake White is back with a new set of songs with the release of his EP, Pieces.
Nearly two years after the release of his debut album, SPARK, Drake White will give fans a taste of what he’s working on with the release of his five-song EP, Pieces. The project, White admits, is one he’s more than ready to send out to fans as he’s spent much of the past several years writing dozens of new songs.
“I’ve always been a very strong advocate of releasing more music current because I write a lot,” White said, leaning back on a couch in an office at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville after previewing new music. “As the news happens, as current events happen, as events happen personally to you in your life, that is ideas that I believe are spiritually just given to you and you can’t take that stuff lightly. I think there’s no time like the present. That stuff has to be released almost immediately to me in a perfect world for me to set it up.”

Though admitting he understands and respects the commercial side of the business, White is eager to share the new songs with fans, hoping that they connect much like they did with his debut release.
“There’s a lot of similarities in that we’re going to go out there and kick the tires and light the fires. It’s in me to go out and play good Friday and Saturday night get-down music,” he shared. “I love good-timing music better than anybody. But there’s also a gap that I think that we’ve fused together between Muscle Shoals and Nashville. It is soul-country vibe that is the soul, funk, kind of current country thing. That’s what with aimed at and I think we hit it very well.”
One fan in White’s corner is his wife, Alex, who listens to nearly everything he writes and gives her honest feedback, whether he likes it or not.
“I think that you can lean on multiple things in your life and if you’re lucky, as lucky as I am, to have somebody as well-rounded and grounded as Alex. I bring her everything. I bring her songs that we…every day I get in from writing, I say check this song out, check this out. And she either says, ‘I love it,’ or she’s said she don’t like it before. That’s a good honest barometer of songs. It’s been great to have her out there. I don’t know, I couldn’t do it without her.”
Pieces is set for release on May 4.
