It’s just been a dream of mine my whole life to do this,” said the duo's Jennifer Fiedler.

Saturday, May 7 marked a momentous occasion for emerging country duo Smithfield. It was the day that the duo, comprised of Trey Smith and Jennifer Fiedler, stepped out into the coveted circle at the Grand Ole Opry for the very first time. The two sang their single “Good Ol’ Days” and a ballad entitled, “Hey Whiskey.”

“Those [songs] are both off our brand new EP that we released in November,” Fiedler told Sounds Like Nashville backstage at the Opry. “We’re gonna start off with a bang and then ‘Hey Whiskey’ is going to be the second one, which is more traditional. We just felt like it was such a perfect Opry song. The day after we wrote it, many years ago, we said if we ever get to play the Opry, we’ve got to play this song.”

The night was a dream come true for the two, who moved to Nashville from Texas in 2012.

“My first experience [at the Opry] was when I was 16 years old and my parents brought me here. It’s just been a dream of mine my whole life to do this,” said Fiedler.

Smith, who had also toured backstage with his family, was also over the moon about getting to play the legendary venue. “We did the backstage tour. We’ve been out in the audience and backstage. Just really admired it for a long time.”

Smithfield’s debut comes just several months after they released their eight-track EP. The project, they say, is a photo of their lives.

“It’s just kind of stories. It’s kind of snapshots. We’re both in our twenties right now and everything we sing about is kind of snapshots of moments you go through when you’re our age right now,” Smith explained. “We just talk about what we’re going through. Life and experiences and love and heartache. It’s kind of just a story more than anything.”

The duo will follow their Opry debut by spending the summer out on the road playing numerous festivals across the country, including Nashville’s CMA Fest. Fans can check out Smithfield’s self-titled EP HERE.
