When Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush decided to re-enter the writing room together, they weren’t sure if Sugarland’s magic was still there. Thankfully, the spark was still alive and the two went on to write an entire album of new music for a project called Bigger. Tackling current topics like #MeToo and equality, the record covers a wide range of issues important to the duo and encourages listeners to spread the positivity.
“I think it’s one of the things that music can do best. Music does it in a way that no other medium does. I think it can really speak right to the heart,” Nettles told Sounds Like Nashville during a recent interview. “And I think, along with that, there’s a bit of responsibility. Dare I say, that it’s a calling. A powerful part of this whole album are those sorts of messages, and that it is pain into hope. Music is transformative in that way and there is a lot of pain happening right now.”
The impactful messages are nothing new to the dynamic duo, as their hopes for a brighter future have been laced throughout their prior projects, including Twice the Speed of Life, Enjoy the Ride, Love on the Inside and The Incredible Machine.
