The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum eagerly opens their brand new exhibit, “Eric Church: Inside the Outsider” today, Sept. 18.

To gear up for the opening, the Hall of Fame held a press conference on Thursday (9/17), where Church previewed the exhibit and talked to members of the media about what the display meant to him and his journey as a songwriter and artist. “I just want to say that, I grew up, I revered country music. I grew up in North Carolina. I remember a distinct memory… when I was 23, I was walking by The Country Music Hall of Fame, when it was this big, and it’s no longer that big and I remember just having a moment, you know, as a songwriter that had just been told ‘no’ a bunch. And if I had the chance, a time machine to go back and tell that guy what would happen over the next 10, 15 years, neither one of us would believe me.”

Church, his wife Katherine, and their two boys, Boone and Hawk, also explored the exhibit, which showcases guitars, song manuscripts, stage wear, photos and more personally chosen from Church’s collection.

“I just walked through the exhibit, and they kind of had to tear me away because I was interested in the Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. I walked through the exhibit and it had my name all over it and here’s what I learned… it has nothing to do with me. It doesn’t matter how great your songs are or how great a singer, how great a player you are. I know this now and it’s about the people, and they’re in this room, it’s about the songwriters. It’s about management. It’s about the band and crew, giving it to them every night. It’s about my family. It’s about the people at our house. It’s not about me, because it’s not possible for one person to make that happen. I can’t say how proud I am. I can’t say how much I love each and every one of them, and I’m blown away by where we are and where we came from and it really took everyone pulling on the rope at the same time. So, I thank you and I love all of you. Thank you very much for this.”

Eric Church: Inside the Outsider” runs through February 2016 and spotlights the North Carolina native’s hard-hitting path from a kid with a dream to becoming a multi-Platinum-selling country rocker filling arenas, amphitheaters and stadiums.
