Eric Church brought his stoic and reserved presence to the 2019 CMA Awards through “Some of It.”

Joined only by an acoustic guitar player, Church kept his deliverance of the chart-topping hit simple. His voice crisp as always, The Chief brought a dose of introspection to the high energy show with the song that conveys simple, but important lessons he’s gathered through life.

Singing such lyrics as “And none of it ever comes easy / A bunch of it you maybe can’t use / I know I don’t probably know what I think I do / But there’s somethin’ to” with conviction, the star let the lyrics do the talking and carry the meaning of the performance.

“Some of It” is Church’s most recent No. 1 song, following 2017’s “Round Here Buzz.” He was nominated for CMA Album of the Year for Desperate Man, which features “Some of It,” an honor that went to Maren Morris Girl. He was also nominated for Entertainer of the Year alongside Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood.
