Eric Paslay Talks ‘She Don’t Love You’

Eric Paslay’s current single, “She Don’t Love You,” is making a steady climb up the charts. The hit songwriter recently talked to CountryMusicIsLove about the day he wrote it with co-writer Jennifer Wayne (known for her stint in the trio Stealing Angels).

He actually forgot about the writing appointment, was tired, and packing up his stuff when Wayne called to ask where he was. He told a little white lie and said he was waiting for her inside.

He said Wayne’s original suggestion was that they write a song for George Strait’s Cowboy Rides Away Tour, which at the time, had just been announced. She talked about how Strait was the quintessential cowboy, like her grandfather John Wayne.

“So we were trying to write something that was kinda George Strait/John Wayne, kinda cool song and got started on something,” Paslay told CMIL during a phone interview.

Then something happened. Was it divine intervention? Possibly. But in the middle of writing that cowboy-themed song the lyrics, “she don’t love you” and “she’s just lonely,” popped up.

“It got written in less than an hour,” he said. “And it’s kinda how the song happened.”

Not only did they write a killer country song that day, Paslay also learned a valuable lesson.

“I guess it taught me to always show up,” he said with a laugh. “And even if you’re tired it’s okay to work if you’re still capable.”

And what about that cowboy song they were working on before those fateful lyrics came out of his mouth? It’s possible you just might hear it someday.

“I keep saying we need to go back and look at it ’cause it’s probably a decent song,” Paslay admitted.
