Fan Story: Christian Meets Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, & Kelly Clarkson

My name is Christian and I absolutely adore Brooks & Dunn — and that I would not miss their final show together for anything! September 2, 2010 was, no doubt, THE best night of my life. The day started out with me seeing a whole bunch of 3’s everywhere I went. If you know me, then you know I think that something amazing will happen if I see a 3. It was 3:33pm, I heard Reba 3 times on the radio, etc. I was sure something amazing would happen. (haha). My mom and I got to Bridgestone Arena around 5:30, where we played Brooks & Dunn trivia and won two blankets. We ran to put our prizes in our truck, then went back to get our tickets. I then signed the ‘thank you’ wall.

We ended up with seats in section 114 on row 5; we were directly straight on from the front row and we were beyond close! Tyler Dickerson opened up and he was great! They showed a video after his set of the crew and band members that made you so sad knowing they didn’t want it to end, either!

Then it happened! Kix and Ronnie came out on stage after the longest intro ever. I was right there next to Ronnie Dunn, so I was freaking out. I can’t detail the show — you can’t put it into words. His voice was amazing and Kix was full of energy! Favorite moments included Kix’s shooting t-shirts into the crowd, and the neon-moon shaped confetti. You would not have thought it was the last show, until Kix performed, what ended up being the most heartbreaking moment of the night. He sat at the end of the catwalk singing “The Last Rodeo” as pictures were shown on the back screens. I cried through the whole thing. Of course everyone knows I’m a HUGE Reba fan, so when she came out for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry”, I freaked out. The whole show was unbelievable!

After the show, I met up with a friend (who I met through a Reba fan site), who came down from Pennsylvania to see the show! We walked around the arena and then went outside to take pictures outside of the trucks. A couple came up to us and said they couldn’t use their passes because they had class the next morning and couldn’t stay, so they handed us two passes to the AFTER PARTY! There were six of us, so my friend and her sisiter went in before my mom and I. She went backstage, then came running out and showed us her camera: a photo of her with Reba and Kelly Clarkson. My mom and I took the passes and ran down to the party. We walked around the room, and my mom saw camera flashes, we went to look. There was REBA. We stood there by her for about 10 minutes waiting on her finish eating, and then saw Kelly Clarkson! I walked over to her and asked for a picture. She stopped and took one with me. She was such a sweetheart; I absolutely adore her! After meeting KC, we went back over to Reba. She began to walk away and I asked for a picture. Her husband told us no, but she said she’d take one with me. This was the biggest deal ever…Reba’s always been my favorite. My mom snapped the picture, and Reba stood there long enough for her to see if she had a clear shot. She then shook my mom’s hand and mine, thanking us for coming. I was just in shock. Never did I think I’d meet Reba and Kelly Clarkson!

We went back up to give our passes to the two others who had yet to go up, but my friend and I ended up going back down to the party. I stood in the hallway, when I saw Kix Brooks walk in. He was just as hilarious and sweet, as always. I had sat in my seat earlier that night, thinking I’d never meet Kix again or meet Ronnie for the first time. After meeting him, I went into the backstage area and looked for Ronnie. He finally came out and I went up to him. He was rushing to leave, but I got to speak to him. I wish I had been able to get a picture, but I took a screen cap from a video we took, so I’d have one. Out of nerves and excitement, I didn’t think to take one!

So, it was technincally Sept 3, because the party lasted until way after midnight (that proved my theory on 3’s lol!). Never in my life did I think I’d ever meet Reba McEntire again, or run into her at a party. I never thought I’d meet Brooks & Dunn at their final show. I never expected to even meet Kelly Clarkson. I was so sure I was dreaming…this was the best night of my life and a moment I’ll never forget.
