The 2018 CMT Music Awards ended up being a good night for Florida Georgia Line and Backstreet Boys! They took home the trophy for the CMT Performance of the Year.

Today host Hoda Kotb and Jon Pardi presented the award after the “Dirt On My Boots” singer pretended to do a try-out to take over as another correspondent for the morning talk show. After admitting to his failure, Pardi toasted Kotb with glasses of white wine to their night in Nashville. The opening of the envelope resulted in the first win of the night for both FGL and BSB.

“Seriously? Who would have thought? Who would have thought that 20 years ago, ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’ came out, that these guys, Florida Georgia Line, would be singing it on stage and then we would actually do something together,” BSB’s Brian Littrell said.

“Real quick to the fans, we’re everything because of y’all,” Brian Kelley concurred in excitement.

The award is presented to the artists for their musical performance on a television show, series or variety special on CMT.

Other nominees in the category included Andra Day, Common, Little Big Town, Lee Ann Womack and Danielle Bradbery for their performance of “Stand Up For Something”, Charles Kelley, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, and Derek Trucks’ “Midnight Rider” performance, Earth, Wind & Fire’s performance with Lady Antebellum of their song “September”, Keith Urban, Aldean, Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town’s performance of “I Won’t Back Down” and Urban and Carrie Underwood’s performance of “The Fighter”.

The 2018 CMT Music Awards were hosted by Little Big Town, and aired live from the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville.
