Early Monday morning, the nominees for the 2016 CMT Music Awards were announced on NBC’s Today Show. Among the list of honorees was Florida Georgia Line, who earned two nods for Video of the Year and Group/Duo Video of the Year with “Sippin’ On Fire.”

FGL’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard were up early rehearsing for their upcoming Dig Your Roots tour when they learned the news.

“We’re in Tupelo, Mississippi, getting ready for our Dig Your Roots Tour so we’re just here a couple days early rehearsing and we’re just on the bus,” Kelley told Sounds Like Nashville over the phone. “I actually saw a video that Thomas Rhett had posted and said our names and we checked some emails following that, so it was a pretty cool day!”

Even though they’ve won several CMT Awards before, Kelley says the nominations are always humbling.

“It’s something that never gets old for Tyler and I. You know we’re very, very thankful to be where we’re at. We’re thankful to be playing music, traveling, performing, connecting with our fans, and I think that’s one of the ways that we ultimately connect is fan-voted award shows. They’re the ones, it’s their voices,” the Florida native excitedly explained. “You know time and time again, they’ve been very faithful. Our fans have and voted for us. You know, we’ve come home winners. And either way it turns out for us, like I said, so thankful to be at any award show because there was a time where Tyler and I weren’t very busy. You know, just grindin’ our gears in Nashville, so we’re very, very thankful.”

Fans can show their support for FGL or any of their other favorite artists by visiting CMT.com from now until June 6. The 2016 CMT Music Awards will air live from Nashville on June 8.
