The shocking death of Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry left the country music community reeling on Friday (Sept. 8). Tragedy struck when the singer lost his life after the helicopter he was in crashed after attempting to make an emergency landing before Montgomery Gentry’s concert in New Jersey that night.
Just days after his passing, his family has announced plans for a public celebration of life, set to take place at the Grand Ole Opry, with a private family internment to follow. The public event will be held at the Grand Ole Opry House (2804 Opryland Drive, Nashville, TN. 37214) on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. CT. The service will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend, via opry.com/troy-gentry.
In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that donations be made to T.J. Martell Foundation or The American Red Cross for hurricane relief.
Gentry and his partner, Eddie Montgomery, are best known for their songs “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” “Something to Be Proud Of,” “Lucky Man,” “Back When I Knew It All” and “Roll With Me.” The duo was inducted into the Opry family in 2009. 2018 was set to be a big year for Montgomery Gentry as they were busy working to release an album of new music to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a duo.
